The topics discussed in the PMETH Programs represent the foundation of exemplary and sustainable leadership.  While intelligence, professional experience and technical proficiency will often get you by in the short-run, the application the PMETH Principles will help you to achieve long-term, sustainable success.

To be sure, leadership is a combination of many things. But the single most important aspect of leadership is working with others and getting their commitment---rather than just compliance---to work effectively toward goals and objectives.  Once you grasp this, the rest will fall into place.

Professionals in a leadership position.  That is, any professional with decision-making authority and/or direct reports.  It is true that there are managers don't lead, and yes, there are even leaders that don't lead.  Both however, should be expected to demonstrate leadership characteristics on a daily basis.

PMETH Leadership Assessment Package

PMETH Consulting

Your leadership ability—and how your people perceive your leadership ability—largely determines the success or failure of your organization and without a doubt, determines how profitable your organization will be.  Therefore, one of the most critical areas needed to achieve organizational goals is the assessment of how the people in our organization perceive our leadership effectiveness.  Below is a summary of the benefits of the PMETH Leadership Assessment Package.

r      One hour consultation with the members of your organization.  Consultation will include a group discussion regarding upward feedback (what this means and why it is critical).  Additionally, we will discuss that because you value your people, you have made the decision to invest in your leadership development to determine how the management of your organization can better serve them.  During this consultation the selected employees will participate in The PMETH Leadership Challenge Series™.

r      PMETHods Report documenting at least twenty PMETHods tailored for your organization to maximize employee morale, productivity and leadership effectiveness.

r      One hour consultation with management to review the results of the PMETH Leadership Challenge Series™ and to go over the PMETHods Report.

r      Follow Up Consultation with the participants to review the results of The PMETH Leadership Challenge Series™ and how (the PMETHods) the management of your organization is committed to developing their leadership ability.

r      Three Month Follow Up Consultation. Another follow up consultation will be conducted three months after the initial consultation to answer any questions that may have arisen regarding the implementation of the PMETHods and assess the effectiveness of the PMETH Services.

1.  Leadership: Everything Else You Need to Know  Intelligence and professional experience are only half of what you need to reach your fullest potential and leadership ability makes up the other half.  You will learn that growth in this area is not automatic and why you must make a conscious effort to learn to lead.

2.  Exemplary Leadership Is Not Easy…Which is one of the reasons we have so few great leaders.  In this section you will learn other common leader pitfalls and how to avoid them.

3.  Integrity and Character  It is true that integrity alone won't make you a leader, but without integrity you will never be one.  You will learn what it means to have integrity and the effects a lack of integrity can have on your team’s morale and productivity.

4.  Valuing People  People are the principal asset of every company.  Without them, there would be no company.  Connecting with people, getting the right people around you and learning what you have to do to keep them—physically and mentally—is critical to meeting objectives.

5.  Credibility  People buy into the leader first, then the leader’s vision.  If you believe the messenger to be credible, then you believe the message has value.  Learning what it means to be credible is critical if we want to be better than the competition.

6.  Change and Continuous Improvement  Why do we get new computers, other tangible assets and improve our products but keep the same policies and procedures in place for a decade?  This course will highlight why we must look for ways to improve our internal (people) processes as well as our products.

1.  Success at Work  What does it mean to be successful?  Are you successful if you have a fancy title?  Are you successful if you have a corner office?  Are you successful if you make lots of money?  Not quite.  In this class, you will learn what admirable success really looks like.

2.  The Golden Rule  No matter how complicated people try to make it, there is only ONE rule that you have to live by to enjoy a long, prosperous life, and it is the Golden Rule.  Learn why treating others the way you want to be treated will help you reach your goals.

3.  Managers vs. Leaders  Managers make sure the work gets done, which is critical.  But leaders care about people, they care about doing the right thing and they inspire others to care.  Which one are you?  Find out why caring is critical to achieving and sustaining long-term success.

4.  Trust, Vulnerability and Confidence  Trust is an important component in any relationship.  To establish trust we have to be confident in our abilities and also show that we are human, fallible.  How can we engender trust, while exuding confidence and vulnerability—at the same time?  It’s time to find out.

5.  Speak Up!!  In business and in life we are told “not to rock the boat”.  Well that is horrible advice!  In this class you will learn why it is imperative to rock the boat and ask the tough questions.

6.  Accountability for Results and Behaviors  Do you know someone who was fired for poor performance and was completely shocked when they got the ax?  If so, someone wasn’t doing their job.  Learn why holding each other accountable and giving continuous constructive feedback is crucial to achieving and maintaining high performance.

How a business functions is directly related to the leadership ability of the people running the company.  This seems like an obvious statement but if it is so evident, why do so few companies invest in leadership development training for their people?  Why do we invest so few resources in the largest, most valuable asset we have?

Studies show:

bullet

Two-thirds of the people who leave their jobs are really leaving their boss/manager.

bullet

The extent to which we do or do not fully contribute is governed by attitude rather than by fear, necessity or economic influence.

bullet

Eighty-five percent of American workers could work harder on the job and more than half could double their effectiveness if they wanted to.

bullet

There is an increment of human effort which can be applied exclusively at the discretion of the individual.  This “discretionary effort” represents the difference between the level of effort which is minimally necessary and that of which we are in fact capable and studies show that most managers and leaders are not getting this discretionary effort from their people.

bullet

Many managers and leaders do things that actually deter their people from expending more effort than what is minimally necessary to get the job done.  But just “getting the job done” is not enough!

In this class you will learn PMETH Principles™ and PMETHods™ that you can begin applying immediately that will help to ensure that you are getting the most out of your people; ensure that people are doing more than what is merely expected.

1.  Leadership Is a Skill  You can have thirty years of “leadership experience” and still not be an effective leader.  Exemplary leadership ability is not an inherent by-product of professional experience.  In this class you will learn that to be effective, we need to make a conscious effort to learn to lead.

2.  Valuing People  People are the principal asset of every company.  Without them, there would be no company.  Learning what you have to do to keep them—physically and mentally—is critical to meeting professional objectives.

5.  Why You Should Learn to Lead  Some people believe that certain people are meant to be leaders while others are meant to be followers, and think that the “meant to be followers” don’t have to learn to lead.  But, if you have direct reports and/or decision-making authority, you’ve already assumed a leadership position and it is your responsibility to learn to lead and demonstrate leadership characteristics on a daily basis.

Integrity is the foundation of leadership.  Leaders must have a set of principles to live by and we have to display and communicate these valueswhat we stand forevery chance we get.  Do your people know what you and your organization stand for?  Do you know what you and your organization stand for?  This class will answer the following questions and many other important leadership questions regarding your organization.

bullet

What does it mean to have integrity in the workplace?  And why is it important?  You may be surprised.

bullet

What does success really look like?  It’s probably not what you think.

bullet

Why do things change so quickly?  How do I help my people adjust to and welcome these inevitable changes?

bullet

How do I get my people to care about the organization as a whole and not just their individual outcomes?

bullet

Management has great ideas, but why does no one seem to embrace them?

5.  Caring  Our job as leaders is to inspire others to care—to care about people, to care about doing a great job, to care about exceeding expectations, to care about doing the right thing even when it is going to cost more than you want to pay—but first we must care!

6.  Credibility  People buy into the leader first, then the leader’s vision because every message people receive is filtered through the messenger who delivers it.  If you believe the messenger to be credible, then you believe the message has value.  Learning what it means to be credible is critical if we want to be better than the competition.

V A L U E  Y O U R  P E O P L E!

“Our customers come first” —this is a nice motto, in theory!  However, who is it that interacts directly with the customer?  Who determines if the customer has a pleasant experience or a poor experience?  Who likely determines if that customer is going to come back?

Two words—your people.  A person's degree of satisfaction with their work situation is entirely and directly related to the quality and quantity of their output.  Therefore, you darn well better make sure your PEOPLE are happy—FIRST!  The customer should be second in your list of priorities because if your people aren’t happy, they are not going to do everything in their power to ensure that the customer is happy.

In this keynote I will address soundly based reasons you should make employee satisfaction your main priority.  Additionally, we will discuss common mistakes made by even the savviest of business leaders.  Lastly, we will cover multiple action items that you can begin to apply immediately that will show your employees that you value them because companies rise to the top when people are exceeding expectations and people will only exceed expectations if they feel valued!

S P E A K  U P!

Are your meetings considered successful if they start on time, end on time and nobody gets upset?  Are there people in your organization that get visibly upset when someone disagrees with them?  Do your people unwittingly have characteristics that detract from productivity and morale that you have not discussed with them?  Do you know someone who was fired for poor performance and was completely shocked when they got the ax?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this keynote is for you!  If you answered no, you’re probably not being honest with yourself.

Organizations today are crippled by people’s unwillingness to speak up.  Lack of candor is a primary reason our organizations are stuck in a whirlwind of mediocrity.  People are more concerned about not “upsetting” someone than they are about doing their jobs!

In this address, learn why constructive dialogue is a must; learn why candidness and holding others accountable is what differentiates the good organizations from the great ones; and take away skillful and diplomatic ways of getting things done by saying what is on your mind!

L E A R N  T O  L E A D,  F O R  E V E R Y O N E ’ S  S A K E !

It’s a fact, the world’s cup is not overflowing with great leaders!  Exemplary leadership ability is a skill and it needs to be learned.  Unfortunately though, we seem to think that growth in this area is automatic.  That if we stick around long enough, we by default learn to be exemplary leaders.  Think about it—if you show up enough times, work a lot of hours (or even just appear to work a lot of hours) and don’t totally stink at your job, they promote you and you get to lead people.  As a result, people just aren’t taking the time to learn how to be effective leaders—why would they?

The people that don’t make a conscious effort to learn to lead can be grouped into three categories:  the Arrogant, the Ignorant and the Indifferent.  The Arrogant don’t learn to lead because they ARE leaders—their fancy title and paycheck can substantiate this.  Then there’s the Ignorant.  There is a saying that “we don’t know what we don’t know” and the Ignorant are the ones that don’t realize this.  And the Indifferent group of people are just collecting a paycheck.

Do you or your people fall into any of these categories?  Listen to my keynote address, and find out.
